Laker Hockey Set for Home-and-Home Series Against Bulldogs

SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich. - The Lake Superior State (LSSU) hockey program (11-11-1, 8-6-1 CCHA) is set for a home-and-home series against the Ferris State Bulldogs (6-16-1, 4-11-0 CCHA).

  • The Lakers lead the all-time series against the Bulldogs 85-62-15, including a 5-1 decision to close out the first half of the season in Big Rapids on Dec. 16.  Both teams play a home-and-home series this weekend with game one at Ferris State before traveling back to Sault Ste. Marie for Saturday's contest.
  • The Lakers enter the weekend at 11-11-1 with an 8-6-1 mark in league play, currently sitting in third place in the CCHA standings with 24 points. Meanwhile, the Bulldogs are 6-16-1 for eighth place in the league, but they have been able to steal wins away from both teams that have spent time at the top of the standings so far this season in St. Thomas and Bemidji State as well as the preseason pick to take the MacNaughton Cup, Michigan Tech.
  • In the prior game at Ferris State, the Lakers won in a very similar fashion to how they have won their most recent pair of games going into the weekend, conceding the opening goal followed by dominating the rest of the way, starting with two goals in quick succession to take the lead.
  • The last time these programs faced each other, Timo Bakos (Augsburg, Germany) finished the night with four assists, marking the first four-point game for any Laker since Louis Boudon in 2021 and the first such game on the road since Brayden Gelsinger at Alaska Fairbanks in 2018. Bakos was named CCHA Forward of the Week after his performance.
  • Evan Bushy (Thief River Falls, Minn.) enters the weekend as the reigning CCHA Defenseman and Rookie of the Week after notching two points while also blocking two shots to help bring home the Cappo Cup against Northern Michigan.
  • The Lakers boast the top scoring offense in the CCHA at 3.35 goals per game, but both teams boast a top-three goaltender in the leauge in terms of save percentage in FSU's Logan Stein (.914) and LSSU's Ethan Langenegger (.913).
  • The Lakers' special teams units have also been on a tear recently with LSSU having at least one power play goal in five of their last six games while the Laker penalty kill is a perfect 16-16 in that same period of time, a penalty unit that has climbed to sixth nationally in PK% on the season at 86.8%. Both the LSSU penalty kill and power play rank first in the CCHA.
  • Senior Jared Westcott (Imperial, Mo.) is currently leading the team in goal scoring with 13 and points with 27.
  • Ross Roloson (Woodbury, Minn.) leads all Laker defensemen in scoring with ten points (4G, 6A).
  • Seven different Lakers have recorded at least ten points so far this season, led by Westcott's 27. Connor Milburn (Kamloops, B.C.) (20), Bakos (18), Harrison Roy (Lakeville, Mass.) (17), John Herrington (Hudson's Hope, B.C.) (15), Dawson Tritt (Spokane, Wash.) (14), and R. Roloson (10) have also reached double-digit scoring.
