Laker Hockey Face Heartbreaker in Overtime

BIG RAPIDS, Mich. - The Lake Superior State hockey program (11-13-1, 8-8-1 CCHA) fell to the Ferris State Bulldogs (7-16-1, 5-11-0) by a final score of 3-2 in overtime on Saturday.

Neither team was able to score in the opening twenty minutes, feeling each other out  with Ethan Langenegger (Kamloops, Mich.) making 11 saves in the first period.

The Bulldogs ended the scoring drought at the 5:56 mark with a goal from Holden Doell, and they would take a 1-0 lead into the second intermission despite the Lakers putting 15 shots on target in the second 20 minutes.

Shortly into the third period, Connor Milburn (Kamloops, B.C.) found the back of the net to tie up the score with a snipe over the shoulder of Ferris State goaltender Noah Geisbrecht after Dawson Tritt (Spokane, Mich.) and Artyom Borshyov (Vitebsk, Belarus) helped set up the play. Kaleb Ergang was able to put the Bulldogs back in front, and with time running short in regulation, the Lakers pulled Langenegger in favor of the extra attacker. Then, at the 1:51 mark, Timo Bakos (Augsburg, Germany) tapped in the one-timer from Harrison Roy (Lakeville, Mass.) to tie up the score and send the game to overtime.

However, Travis Shoudy proved to be a heartbreaker, ending the game 48 seconds into the overtime period.

The Lakers will look to bounce back on Friday, Jan. 26 when they host the Michigan Tech Huskies in Taffy Abel Arena with puck drop scheduled for 7:07 p.m.
