Lakers Face Setback at Ferris State

BIG RAPIDS, Mich. - The Lake Superior State hockey program (11-12-1, 8-7-1 CCHA) fell on the road to the Ferris State Bulldogs (7-16-1, 5-11-0) by a final score of 5-3 on Friday.

Both teams battled through the opening period of action with neither able to find the back of the net as senior goaltender Ethan Langenegger (Kamloops, B.C.) fended off 18 shots after the first 20 minutes.

The Bulldogs fought back early in the second period with a goal from Travis Shoudy, and Luigi Benincasa made the score 2-0 at the 3:04 mark. The Lakers created multiple chances to claw their way back into the game, and at the 15:59 mark, Dawson Tritt's (Spokane, Wash.) tenth goal of the season put the Lakers on the board with help from Ross Roloson (Woodbury, Minn.) and John Herrington (Hudson's Hope, B.C.). Then, Connor Milburn (Kamloops, B.C.) tied up the game ten seconds later as Tritt and Cam Kungle (Red Deer, Alta.) set up the play right off of the ensuing face-off.

However, Ferris State was able to steal the game away in the third period with three unanswered goals, despite a late goal from Nate Schweitzer (Champlin, Minn.) with Milburn and Kungle picking up their second points of the night.

The Lakers will be looking to split the weekend series when they return to the Soo on Saturday, Jan. 20 with puck drop scheduled for 6:07 p.m. in Taffy Abel Arena.
