Cross Country Competes in Michigan State's Spartan Invitational

EAST LANSING, Mich. - The Lake Superior State men's and women's cross country teams competed in Michigan State's Spartan Invitational in East Lansing, Mich. on Friday, Sept. 17. The meet was held at Forest Akers East Golf Course and featured 21 collegiate programs, including numerous Division I teams.

The women's team took part in the 6,000 meter race at 11:00 a.m. and the Lakers placed 18th with a total of 593 points. The men's team raced in the 8,000 meter distance at 11:40 a.m. and finished in 18th place with 537 points. 

The Laker women's team, made up of an all-freshman roster, was led by Josie Morrow who finished first among her teammates with a time of 27:22.4. Gwen Phillips finished second among her teammates with a time of 29:57.1. Sydney Kapushinski (30:15.4), Katelyn Moore (32:23.6), and Olivia Stevens (32:58.7) rounded out the women's team. 

The men's team was led by senior David Mitter, who placed 25th among 289 participants. Mitter finished with a time of 25:48.4 at the Spartan Invitational. Sophomore Roy Bowman was the next Laker finisher with a time of 29:42.4 and freshman Reese Camp rounded out LSSU's top three finishers with a time of 29:46.2. Dominic Comfort (29:51.6), Ethan Nachazel (30:20.7), Ryan O'Neill (30:31.6), Aaron Nachazel (30:57.0), Devlin Taube (32.57.4), Skylar Williams (35:07.7) and Zach Hanson (41.04.2) also represented the Lakers at the Spartan Invitational.

The Lakers will have a week off before the next meet. Lake Superior State will participate in Saginaw Valley State's Inaugural Red October Meet on Saturday, Oct. 2 at SVSU's Home Course.
