Women's Golf Wraps Up First Weekend of the Season

COLUMBUS, Ohio - The Lake Superior State women's golf team completed the first competition of the fall season at the Champions of Women's Classic hosted by Ohio Dominican University on Saturday, Sept. 18 and Sunday, Sept. 19 at Champions Golf Course in Columbus, Ohio. The Lakers, with only four golfers available to participate, finished in 10th place with a two-day combined score of 704 (342, 362). 

The Lakers were led by the duo of senior Alyshia Suleman and sophomore Marie Mathieu who both finished among the top 20 golfers with a two-day score of 164. Both golfers recorded identical scores of 81 on day one and 83 on the second day of competition to finish tied for 17th overall. Junior Julia Vess finished third among the Lakers with a two-day score of 176 after posting an 83 and 93. 

Freshman Jesse Hellebuyck made her collegiate debut this weekend. Hellebuyck finished with a two-day total of 200 (97, 103) in her first competition as a Laker.

The Lakers will travel to Allendale, Mich. next weekend to compete in the 12th Annual Gilda's Club Laker Fall Invite hosted by Grand Valley State University. The tournament will be held on Saturday, Sept. 25  through Monday, Sept. 27 at The Meadows Golf Course.
