Women's Basketball Set for a Road Weekend of GLIAC Games

SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich. - The Lake Superior State women's basketball team will travel to Detroit, Mich. to face the Wayne State Warriors on Thursday, Jan. 30th at 5:30 p.m. Following the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) matchup against the Warriors, the Lakers will travel south to Ashland, Ohio to face the No. 2 Ashland Eagles on Saturday, Feb. 1st at 1:00 p.m.

Lake Superior State Lakers (6-12, 2-9 GLIAC)

The Lakers are looking to snap a seven game losing streak this weekend after two hard fought losses against the Pride of Purdue Northwest as well as the Parkside Rangers during last weekend's homestand. In both matchups, the Lakers were defeated by nine points. The Lakers were led by senior forward Lexie Khon who had a total of 43 points and 11 rebounds on the weekend. Leading the team in rebounds was freshman forward Mattison Rayman who had 15 boards in the pair of games. Earlier this season on Dec. 7, the Lakers came out on top of the Wayne State Warriors by a score of 48-34 and will look to grab two more GLIAC wins as Head Coach Brandon Lokken's Lakers look to Hammer The Stone this weekend against two competitive programs.

Wayne State Warriors (11-8, 5-6 GLIAC)

The Warriors are currently in third place in the GLIAC South division. The Warriors have won their last three games thanks to the talent of their leading scorer on the season, Sadia Johnson who has 250 points on the year. The Warriors sophomore forward Sam Churney was a key player for the team last weekend as she recorded her third career double-double. The Warriors are coached by nine year veteran Carrie Lohr.

No. 2 Ashland Eagles (19-0, 11-0 GLIAC)

The Eagles are currently in the driver's seat in the GLIAC South Division as they hold a perfect 11-0 record in conference play this year. Earlier this season, the Lakers fell to the Eagles by a score of 85-55. The Eagles are averaging 91 points in each matchup they have played this season, which leads all NCAA Division II women's teams in this category. The Eagles are also averaging 39.2 rebounds a game. Ashland's second-year head coach is Kari Pickens.
