Laker Cross Country Competes at the 2021 GLIAC Championships

UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. - The Lake Superior State men's and women's cross country teams raced in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Cross Country Championships on Saturday,  Oct. 23 in University Center, Mich. on Saginaw Valley State's campus. 

The women's team took part in the 6,000 meter race at 11:00 a.m. while the men's team raced in the 8,000 meter distance at 11:45 p.m.

The men's team was led by senior David Mitter who placed 12th overall with a time of 25:56.9. Mitter's classmate Kendal Delpiere was the next Laker to cross the finish line with a time of 29:04.7. The remaining seven members of the men's team all competed in the GLIAC Championships for the first time in their respective careers as all are either freshmen or sophomores. Ethan Nachazel (29:13.0), Ryan O'Neill (29:37.4), Reese Camp (30:16.8), Dominic Comfort (30:29.7), Skylar Williams (30:51.7), Aaron Nachazel (30:59.9), and Devlin Taube (32:49.3) each wrapped up their first conference season for the Lakers at the GLIAC Championships. 

The Lakers women's squad consisted of an all-freshman roster as all five runners competed in the conference championship race for the first time in their collegiate careers. Josie Morrow was the first Laker to complete the distance and led the team with a time of 27:50.9. Sydney Kapushinski followed with a time of 28:58.8 to rank second among her teammates. Gwen Phillips rounded out the Laker top three finishers with a time of 29:13.4 as she bested her PR by five seconds. Katelyn Moore (31:01.4) and Olivia Stevens (31.13.1) marked the final two finishers for the Lakers at the GLIAC Championships.
