SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich. - The Lake Superior State men's and women's cross country teams will compete in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Cross Country Championship this Saturday, Oct. 23. The meet will be hosted by Saginaw Valley State and held in University Center, Mich.

The women's 6k race is set for an 11:00 a.m. start while the men's 8k race will follow at 11:45 a.m.

The Lakers will race against all of the GLIAC teams this weekend. This championship follows the team's participation in the Northwood Pre-Conference Tune-up where the Lakers had a strong finish. Kendal Delpiere led the men's squad with a 17th place overall finish with a time of 28:45.5. Aaron Nachazel finished second among his teammates with a time of 28:49.6 and Reese Camp rounded out the Laker top three finishers with a time of 28:59.3. Dominic Comfort (29:37.0), Devlin Taube (31:01.2) and Skylar Williams (31:32.3) completed the Laker finishers at the Tune-Up meet.

On the men's side, the Lakers will be looking at David Mitter to have a strong showing as the senior has placed 10th overall in the last two GLIAC Championships he has participated in. Mitter, who did not compete last weekend, recorded a first place finish in his last competition as he crossed the Red October Invite's finish line nearly a minute before the next runner with a time of 25:33.30.

In the women's race last weekend at Northwood, the Lakers were led by freshman Josie Morrow, who placed 16th overall with a time of 21:56.5. The remainder of the women's team, which was an all-freshman roster, included Sydney Kapushinski (23:22.3), Katelyn Moore (24:05.2), Gwen Phillips (24:12.1), and Olivia Stevens (24:58.8).

Following the GLIAC Cross Country Championships, any Lakers who qualify will compete in the NCAA Regional competitions.
