Cross Country Ready to Compete in the Second Annual Warrior Challenge

SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich.- The Lakers men's and women's cross country teams look to continue their successful finishes this weekend at the Second Annual Warrior Invitational hosted by Wayne State University. The competition will take place at Willow Metropark in New Boston, Mich. with the Lakers will facing off against nine other teams including GLIAC opponents Wayne State, Davenport Univ, Northwood Univ., Ferris State. 

At last week's Spartan Invitational hosted by Michigan State,  senior Rebecca Lathrop led the women's team with a time of 25:38.3 in the 6,000-meter distance.  The Lakers also had strong finishes from juniors Alexis Passino (27:07.6) and Emily Merten (27:37.2) respectively. 

The men's team competed at the 8,000-meter distance at the Spartan Invitational. Junior David Mitter led the Lakers for the second straight invitational to open the season with a time of 26:47.0. Mitter place 80th overall among the over 300 runners who participated.

Women's 6,000-Meter Race @ 10:30 am

Men's 8,000-Meter Race  @ 11:15 am

The Lakers will have a few weeks before they resume competition on Saturday, Oct. 12. Lake Superior State will take part in the Fifth Annual Conference Crossover Cross Country Invitational hosted by Lewis University in Romeoville, Illinois.
