Laker Tennis picks up a victory over Lindenwood University

ST. CHARLES, Mo. – The Lake Superior State men's and women's tennis teams competed against the Lindenwood University Lions on Tuesday, March 3 in St. Charles, Mo. Both the men's and women's teams picked up a solid victory in their third Spring Break match.

In the women's competition, the team was playing high level tennis from the start as the Lakers earned the doubles point. The Lakers No. 3 duo of Riley Gilman and Madelin Harrod wrapped up doubles with their first collegiate win together 6-2.

In the singles matches, AlexiAnn Drouin playing at the top of the lineup, got a win in two sets by scores of 6-3, 6-2. At No. 2, sophomore Nadege Koua swept her opponent with a final score of 6-1, 6-3 followed by Muskaan Ranjan at the No. 3 spot winning in two sets of 6-4, 6-2. With the Lakers clinching the doubles point and the top three singles players winning their matches, the Lakers get their first win of spring break. Singles No. 4 Keegan Malpass was defeated by the Lions 4-6, 1-6 as well as freshman Riley Gilman who fell 2-6, 2-6. On court No. 6, Madelin Harrod had a strong start but fell by a final of 4-6, 2-6.

The men's team dropped the doubles point to the Lions as only the No.1 duo of Joe Gilman and Juho Kantola recorded a win. During the single matches, Gilman, playing at the top spot for the Lakers, recorded a victory in a third set of 6-3, 5-7, 6-2. On court No. 2, Juho Kantola also picked up a win in two sets by 6-3, 7-6 (3) followed by Krishan Taneja at the No. 3 spot with a win of 6-3, 4-6, 6-2. The team's No. 4 player, Ali Sahibzada, recorded his second consecutive win for 6-1, 6-7 (5), 6-2. Singles No. 5, Harris Irfan Ul Haq beat his opponent in two sets by 6-4, 6-4 along with Diego Penz at the No. 6 spot getting a win in the tiebreaker of the third set 3-6, 6-4, 10-7 for wrapping up the win for the Lakers.

The Lakers will be on the court again tomorrow in St. Louis, Mo. to play Maryville University at 1:30 p.m.
