Lakers Fall in Tight Battle With Seawolves for a Series Split

SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich. - The Lake Superior State (LSSU) hockey team (1-3-0) Alaska Anchorage Seawolves (2-2-0) by a final score of 3-2 on Saturday.

Karter McNarland opened up the scoring for the Seawolves at the 9:24 mark of the opening period, but Connor Milburn (Kamloops, B.C.) cleaned up a rebound from Jared Westcott (Imperial, Mo.) to tie up the game at 1-1. Freshman Ross Roloson would then score the first goal of his career with assists from Timo Bakos (Augsburg, Germany) and Grant Hindman (Oakland, Mich.) at the 10:51 mark. However, at the 13:35 mark, Porter Schachle was able to take advantage of a Seawolf power play to tie up the score at 2-2 going into the first intermission.

Schachle would retake the lead for Alaska Anchorage with his second of the night at the 7:10 mark of the second period, but the defenses would not allow another goal beyond that for either side for the remainder of the period.

The Lakers were able to create multiple quality chances in the third period, but the Seawolves' defense proved to be up to the challenge, holding LSSU scoreless despite several attacks at the net and nearly icing the game away with an empty-netter that was ruled a good goal on the ice before replay determined that the clock had reached zero prior to the puck crossing the goal line.

Despite the loss, senior goaltender Ethan Langenegger (Kamloops, B.C.) was still able to stop 36 shots that he faced.

The Lakers will look to bounce back on Saturday, Oct. 21 when they host Simon Fraser for an exhibition matchup with the first puck drop scheduled for 6:07 p.m.
