Hockey Set for a Weekend Series that Will Be Played in the Twin Saults

• The Lakers will return to Sault Ste. Marie for a series against the University of Alabama Huntsville that will be played at two different arenas in two different countries. Friday's game is set for a 7:07 p.m. start at the Taffy Abel Arena in Sault Ste. Marie, Mich. while Saturday's game will be played at the GFL Memorial Gardens in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario at 7:07 p.m.

• This will be the first NCAA game played by the university in Sault Ste Marie, Ontario and the first NCAA Division I men's game played in Canada since January 7, 2012, when North Dakota and Clarkson played in Winnipeg.

• Last weekend, the Lakers split a road series to the Michigan Tech Huskies during Winter Carnival with a 7-3 win on Friday night followed by a 4-3 overtime loss on Saturday evening. 

• In Friday's win, the Lakers scored a season-high seven goals with six different players recording a goal in the game and 12 players notching at least a point. 

Brendan McKay opened the scoring for the Lakers with his first goal of the season and would add an assist in the game for his third career multi-point game. McKay would add another goal in Saturday's game. 

Ashton Calder, who was named WCHA Forward of the Week, gave the Lakers the lead with a shorthanded goal in the first period and would tally the game winning goal in the second period.

Max Humitz would bring his goal streak up to three games when the senior forward scored his career-best 17th goal of the season in the opening period against the Huskies. 

• Humitz leads all current Lakers in career points with 102 (59G, 43A) in 140 career games, which also ranks first among his teammates. The Livonia, Mich. native leads all WCHA players in shots on goal this season with 120. 

•The Laker captain leads the team in goals with 17 and points with 26 this season. Humitz is tied for second in the WCHA in goals as well as tied for fourth among all NCAA players in goals. 

• The Lakers built upon their lead with three more goals in the game which included Miroslav Mucha's second goal of the season, Chase Gamelin's first goal of the season and Arvid Henrikson's first career goal.

Will Riedell, who was named WCHA Defenseman of the Week, tallied a career-high three assists in the game. All three of the junior's helpers were primary assists which included the game winning goal. 

Tyler Anderson (2A) and Yuki Miura (2A) rounded out the Lakers multi-point scorers in the win on Friday.

• In Saturday's game, Calder opened the scoring for the Lakers with his third goal of the weekend while Riedell, who was playing in his 100th career game, capped off his weekend with his fourth assist. 

• Riedell was tied for the league lead in points this weekend with four and led all WCHA defensemen in points. The defenseman led the conference in assists. Riedell has now set a new career in assists with nine this season and tied his previous season high in points (11). 

• With the goal,  Calder has nine points in his last seven games played, including four multi-point games. The sophomore forward currently is riding a three-game point streak as he has posted a trio of two-point games in that span (4G, 2A). Calder has set a new career high in goals this season with nine. 

• The Lakers fell behind by a goal to the Huskies but Pete Veillette would score the game tying goal with :45 seconds left in regulation to force overtime. Veillette, once again proving his status as a clutch player, has extended his point streak to five games, dating back to Jan. 11 at Alaska (3G, 2A). 

• Veillette has set new career highs in goals (9), assists (10) and points (19).  In addition to his three game winning goals this season, Veillette has also scored twice in the second overtime for the Lakers this season. 

Hampus Eriksson and freshman forward Louis Boudon are tied for the team-lead in assists with 14 each this season. Boudon who has 18 points in his first collegiate season is sixth among WCHA freshmen in points. 

• Laker goaltender Mareks Mitens registered his career-best ninth win of the season on Friday night while also adding his first career point as he assisted on Calder's shorthanded goal. 

• Mitens has faced 858 shots and made 773 saves this season, which both rank first in the WCHA. In the NCAA, Mitens has made the fifth most saves while ranking third in total shots faced. The Laker goalie has played more minutes (1811:26) than any other NCAA goaltender in 2019-20.

• Junior forward Yuki Miura leads the Lakers with 28 blocked shots this season and leads all WCHA forwards in the category.

• Freshman Dustin Manz leads the team with a .587 faceoff win percentage this season as he has won 178 of the 303 draws he has taken. Manz has the third best faceoff win percentage in the WCHA. Eriksson leads the team in faceoff wins with 309, which ranks sixth among all WCHA players. 

• The Lakers have five players among the top 36 scorers in the WCHA. The Laker offense has been evenly distributed this season as 24 players have recorded at least a point, 8 players with 11 or more points, five  players with 18 or more points and two players recording 20 or more points. 19 different players have registered a goal for the Lakers this season. 

•The Lakers and the UAH Chargers will meet for the first time this season and the first time since Jan. 2019. Last season, the teams played each other four times, with the Lakers taking the season series by a record of 3-0-1. In the last ten games between the WCHA rivals, the Lakers hold an 8-1-1 record. 

• In the all-time series between the two teams, the Lakers hold the advantage in the series against the Chargers with a 14-7-3 record. 

• 12 current Lakers have registered at least a point against the Chargers. Humitz leads the team with nine points (5G, 4A) in 10 career games played while Brayden Gelsinger has eight career points (4G, 4A) in 10 career games against Alabama Huntsville.
