Men's Basketball Set to Close 2019 with a Road Game at Lewis

SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich. - The Lake Superior State men's basketball team will close out the calendar year in a road non-conference meeting against the Lewis University Flyers in Romeoville, Ill. on Saturday, Dec. 21 at 3:00 p.m. at the Neil Carey Arena. 

The Lakers

The Lakers head into their final game of 2019 coming off a 73-70 non-conference loss over the No. 14/15 ranked Indianapolis Greyhounds at home on Dec. 17. Despite the loss, the Lakers have compiled a .500 record through the first ten games of the season, and are 2-1 in GLIAC conference play including a win over No. 10 Ashland. Lake Superior is led by senior forward Ke'Montrece Collins who ranks sixth in the conference with 18.0 points per game this season and his 7.7 rebounds per game is good for fifth in the GLIAC. Collins has recorded 20 or more points in five of the Lakers ten games this season. C.J. Robinson's 9.7 points per game is second best on the team while freshmen Nigel Colvin (9.4 ppg) and Xander Okerlund (9.2 ppg) have also been steady contributors for the Lakers. Sophomore guard Justin Fischer leads the team in assists per game with 4.5 and ranks third on the team in rebounds 4.3.

The Lakers are averaging 78.6 points per game this season with a 43.7 shooting percentage and 33.2 rebounds per game. 

Lewis University Flyers (5-3, 1-0 GLVC)

The Flyers enter the game against the Lakers on a five game win streak with their most recent victory coming over the Hillsdale Chargers by a final score of 68-65. Lewis' schedule through the first ten games of the season have been primarily non-conference with the Flyers winning their only conference game this season. The Flyers are led by junior forward Anthony D'Avanzo who averages 18.1 points per game this season on a 49.5 shooting percentage. Including D'Avanzo, Lewis University has three players who average over 11 or more points per game. Senior guard Adam Pischke has put up an average of 13.9 points per game and Dre Bell, a junior guard, has averaged 11.4 points per game. D'Avanzo also leads the Flyers in rebounds with 6.5 per game. The Flyers are led by Head Coach Scott Trost, who is in his 14th season in the role. 

Lewis is averaging 71.5 points per game in 2019-20 with a 45.8 shooting percentage and 32.5 rebounds per game.
