Roy's Late Heroics Lift Laker Hockey Past Bemidji State

SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich, - The Lake Superior State hockey program (5-21-2, 4-15-1 CCHA) secured the series split against Bemidji State Beavers (11-10-5, 9-6-3 CCHA) by a final score of 3-2 after Harrison Roy (Lakeville, Mass.) slotted home the game-winner with 13 seconds remaining in regulation on Saturday.

The Beavers were able to score the lone goal of the opening period as Ross Armour found the back of the net for his third goal of the weekend.

The Lakers would take advantage of a five-minute major penalty on the Beavers that carried over into the second period as Roy tied up the game at 1-1 on the power play 49 seconds after retaking the ice with assists from Jacob Bengtsson (Stockholm, Sweden) and Timo Bakos (Augsburg, Germany). However, Bemidji State wasted no time retaking the lead after Will Zmolek stole the puck away and played it up to Lleyton Roed for the score.

At the 10:56 mark of the third period, Jared Westcott (Imperial, Mo.) fired the puck past the Bemidji State goaltender to once again knot up the score after being set up by Jake Willets (Monroe, Mich.) and Cole Craft (North Bay, Ont.). Then, with 13.3 seconds remaining, Roy became the hero of the night, scoring the game winner after a pair of nice passes from Louis Boudon (Grenoble, France) and Bengtsson.

Seth Eisele (Lake Elmo, Minn.) picked up his first win between the pipes of the season after stopping 34 shots on goal.

The Lakers return to action when they travel to take on the Northern Michigan Wildcats on Friday, Feb. 3 with puck drop scheduled for 6:37 p.m.
