SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich. - The Lake Superior State hockey program (4-20-2, 3-14-1 CCHA) are set to host a two-game Central Collegiate Hockey Association (CCHA) series against the Bemidji State Beavers (10-9-5, 8-5-3 CCHA) with puck drop for game one scheduled for 7:07 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 27.

Stories to watch:

  • The Beavers narrowly lead the all time series between the two programs 38-37-6.
  • Both teams came away with a split in their previous meetings earlier this season with the Lakers picking up a thrilling 3-2 overtime victory in game one after coming back from down 0-2 with Jacob Bengtsson (Stockholm, Sweden) tying up the score at 2-2 with 24 seconds remaining in regulation before Brandon Puricelli (Ellisville, Mo.) hit the game-winner in overtime. The Beavers would go on to win the second game of the series 4-1. Louis Boudon (Grenoble, France) would also record his 100th career point in game one of the series while assisting on all three Laker goals.

The Lakers were able to stay within at least one goal of the Mavericks for all but eight seconds of the entire series (empty-netter in game two) in the effort.
  • The Beavers are coming off of a series split against Northern Michigan in which Bemidji State shut out the Wildcats 4-0 in game one before falling 5-2 the following day.
  • Bemidji State boasts the reigning CCHA Rookie of the Week in Lleyton Roed after he led all league freshmen with two points (1G, 1A) in a series split against Northern Michigan, marking his conference-leading third Rookie of the Week honor.
  • Bemidji State goaltender Mattias Sholl currently ranks third in the CCHA in save percentage (.921).
  • In 1974, the Lake Superior State Lakers defeated Bemidji State by a score of 4-1 to claim their second NAIA National Championship.

  • Bengtsson is currently leading LSSU in assists this season with 15.
  • Dawson Tritt (Spokane, Wash.) and Boudon are tied for the team-lead in goals (8).
