Laker Hockey Secure Series Split With Bulldogs with Dominant 4-1 Victory

SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich, - The Lake Superior State hockey program (4-18-2, 3-12-1 CCHA) picked up a dominant 4-1 victory over the Ferris State Bulldogs (10-10-2, 7-6-1 CCHA) on Saturday.

The Lakers set the tone early as Jared Kucharek (Royal Oak, Mich.) slotted home his second goal of the season after being set up by Tyler Williams (South Lyon, Mich.) and Brandon Puricelli (Ellisville, Mo.) who picked up the assists. The defenses would then hold for the remainder of the opening period as the Lakers went into the intermission with a 1-0 lead.

Dawson Tritt (Spokane, Wash.) would then double-up the score at the 8:40 mark of the second period after intercepting a pass and scoring unassisted on the breakaway, and Harrison Roy (Lakeville, Mass.) snuck through his fourth power play goal in four games with assists from Jacob Bengtsson (Stockholm, Sweden) and Puricelli to push the lead to 3-0 to close out the second period of action.

Antonio Venuto would take advantage of an extra-man opportunity of his own to get the Bulldogs on the board at the 5:26 mark of the third period, ending Ethan Langenegger's (Kamloops, B.C.) bid at a third career shutout against Ferris State, but he would still ultimately pick up the win between the pipes as Bengtsson stole the puck away and pushed it up to Tritt who iced the game away with an empty-netter to secure the 4-1 victory.

Tritt and Bengtsson each finished the night with multiple points, and Langenegger had another strong performance saving 39 shots while only allowing a single goal.

The Lakers return to action when they travel to take on the Minnesota State Mavericks for a two-game series with puck drop for game one scheduled for Friday, Jan. 20 at 8:07 p.m.
