Laker Hockey Falls to Ferris State

SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich, - The Lake Superior State hockey program (3-18-2, 2-12-1 CCHA) fell to the Ferris State Bulldogs (10-9-2, 7-5-1 CCHA) by a final score of 4-0 on Friday.

Both teams battled early, testing each others' goaltenders with multiple quality chances, but at the 10:23 mark of the opening period, Antonio Venuto would get the Bulldogs on the board with a strike directly off of a faceoff.

Both teams continued to go back and forth, but Dallas Tulik would double-up the score for Ferris State midway through the second period, and Tyler Schleppe extended the lead to 3-0 with 2.2 seconds remaining before the second intermission.

Neither team was able to capitalize on several quality chances in the third period. However, Schleppe managed to ice the game away with an empty-netter in the closing moments.

Despite the loss, goaltender Seth Eisele (Lake Elmo, Minn.) came away with 28 saves. The Lakers outshot the Bulldogs 34-32 offensively, and Arvid Henrikson (Stockholm, Sweden) and Jared Kucharek (Royal Oak, Mich.) each had a pair of blocks in their defensive zone.

The Lakers will be looking for a series split on Saturday, Jan. 14 with puck drop scheduled for 6:07 p.m.
