Laker Hockey Falls in Second Game Against the Beavers

BEMIDJI, Minn. - The Lake Superior State hockey program (2-12-2, 1-7-1 CCHA) fell in the second game of their CCHA road series against the Bemidji State Beavers (7-5-4, 5-2-3 CCHA) by a final score of 4-1 on Saturday.

Both teams would battle throughout the opening period, but each team would only account four five shots on goal each as the defenses kept the game scoreless heading into the first intermission.

Lleyton Roed was able to get the Beavers on the board first at the 3:26 mark of the second period with a power-play goal, and Kyle Looft would steal the puck away a few minutes later to score unassisted on a breakaway to make it 2-0 in favor of Bemidji State. Ross Armour would then close out the period with two more power-play goals going into the second intermission.

Shortly into the third period, an interference call against the Beavers would give the Lakers a chance to battle their way back into the game, and they would take advantage of the opportunity. After crowding the goal, Dawson Tritt (Spokane, Wash.) had multiple shots saved, but captain Louis Boudon (Grenoble, France) found himself in the right place at the right time to tap in the rebound for his sixth goal of the season and fourth point of the weekend. However, despite a strong effort throughout the remainder of the game, Bemidji State would hold on to claim the 4-1 victory for the series split.

Despite the loss, Boudon was able to finish the series with four total points, bringing his storied career total to 103. Tritt and Timo Bakos (Augsburg, Germany) would also tally a point, assisting on the goal from their captain. Defensively, Jake Willets (Monroe, Mich.) continued to put his body on the line with four blocks, bringing his weekend total to ten in the series.

The Lakers return to action on Friday, Dec. 16 when they return home to take on the Michigan Tech Huskies with puck drop scheduled for 7:07 p.m.
