Preview: Laker Hockey Hits the Road for a CCHA Series Against the Bemidji State Beavers

SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich. - The Lake Superior State hockey program (1-11-2, 0-7-1 CCHA) is set to travel back to the Land of 10,000 Lakes for a two-game Central Collegiate Hockey Association series against the Bemidji State Beavers (6-4-4, 4-1-3 CCHA) at the Sanford Center in Bemidji, Minn. Puck drop for game one of the series is scheduled for 7:07 p.m. Central Standard Time on Friday, Dec. 9.

Stories to watch:

  • Bemidji State leads the all-time series between the two programs 36-32-6, dating back to 1966.
  • Boudon enters the series against Bemidji State one point shy of 100 for his career.
  • Jake Willets (Monroe, Mich.) appeared in the 100th game of his collegiate career on Dec. 2 against Bowling Green.
  • The Beavers are coming off of a five-point weekend against St. Thomas, winning the Friday battle 6-4 before coming away with a shootout-victory on Saturday.
  • Bemidji State also boasts an impressive 3-1 victory over then No. 2 St. Cloud State on Oct. 28.
  • Four different Beavers have reached double-digit points so far this season, led by Mitchell Martin with 12 (5G, 7A).
  • Elias Rosen is the back-to-back reigning CCHA Defenseman of the Week after pacing the league's defensemen with three points on a goal and two assists while helping the Beavers to a five-point weekend against St. Thomas.
  • Mattias Sholl is currently leading the CCHA in Goals-Against Average (1.95) heading into the series.
  • Senior captain Louis Boudon (Grenoble, France) has been letting his shots fly so far this season, entering the series with 54 shots attempted for an average of 3.86 shots per game, marks that rank 4th and 2nd in the CCHA, respectively.
  • No player has taken more face-offs in the CCHA than Boudon (361), but he will be looking to improve on his face-off winning percentage of .460.
  • Bemidji State is one of the most diciplined teams in the CCHA, averaging the lowest amount of penalty minutes per contest (7:21).
