SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich. - The Lake Superior State hockey program (1-9-2, 0-5-1 CCHA) is set to take on the Falcons of Bowling Green (6-8, 5-5 CCHA) to open up December hockey back in the friendly confines of Taffy Abel Arena. The Falcons are coming off of a series split at Ferris State by taking the first game 6-0 before falling by a score of 4-1 on Saturday. Meanwhile, the Lakers return to play on home ice for the first time since they faced Northern Michigan on Nov. 5.

The Falcons lead the all-time series 90-79-13, dating back to the 1970s, one of the oldest pairs of CCHA rivals with both teams being founding members of the league in 1971.

Both teams split the season series a year ago with each team winning both games played on home ice.

The Falcons were projected to finish third in the CCHA Preseason poll. However, despite currently sitting at third in the standings, they have been a .500 team in league play, and they have nearly split every series they played with only a pair of losses to Western Michigan seeing both games with relatively one-sided results.

The Falcons were able to force overtime on the road against then No. 8 Minnesota State, but they also trailed St. Thomas with five minutes remaining in the second game of the series at home before scoring twice in the closing moments.
