Laker Hockey Falls on the Road at St. Thomas

MENDOTA HEIGHTS, Minn. - The Lake Superior State hockey program (1-8-2, 0-4-1 CCHA) fell on the road to the St. Thomas Tommies (3-12-0, 2-7-0 CCHA) by a final score of 4-0 on Friday.

Both defenses came out strong in a scoreless opening period with each goaltender saving ten shots each.

Just over five minutes into the second period, Josh Eernisse put the Tommies on the board first, and he was able to score a second goal a few minutes later to put St. Thomas up 2-0. Cameron Recchi would then convert on a power play at the 12:20 mark to make the score 3-0 going into the second intermission.

Midway through the third, Mack Byers scored a power play goal for the Tommies, and despite multiple chances from the Lakers, St. Thomas held on to win the opening game of the series.

Despite the loss, Jared Kucharek (Royal Oak, Mich.) was able to take a lot of pressure off of his goaltender, blocking five shots on the night, and Jake Willets (Monroe, Mich.) and Jacob Bengtsson (Stockholm, Sweden) also made a strong impact defensively with four and three blocks, respectively.

The Lakers will look to bounce back in the second game of the series on Saturday, Nov. 26 with puck drop scheduled for 7:07 p.m.
