Dani Filipek Named Assistant Cross Country/Track & Field Coach

SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich. – The Lake Superior State University cross country and track and field programs have hired Dani Filipek as Assistant Coach, as announced by Head Coach Tony Filipek on Tuesday. Dani Filipek returns to LSSU after a brief stint as an assistant coach that began in Aug. 2018.

"I am very happy that Dani is back into a position that she held in 2018," said Tony Filipek. "I have worked with her at various universities, and it is good to have a like-minded individual that wants to do things the appropriate and correct way to build success for the programs."

Dani Filipek not only brings strong coaching experience, but athletically as well. She was an All-American at Northwood University in the 5,000 meter indoors, she won the 2017 USA 50-mile National Championship, and she was an Olympic Trials Qualifier in the marathon.

"Dani is an extremely energetic, enthusiastic, and motivating coach," said Tony Filipek. "She has great experience athletically, going all the way to the Olympic trials in the marathon, and I think she will contribute with recruiting tremendously. She has already put together some great weekends."

Coaching at all levels, from middle school to professionals, Dani Filipek brings an additional level of leadership that student athletes can relate to.

"She is a great role model for not only our female athletes, but our male athletes as well, and it could not come at a better time than right now in the fall as we lead into cross country season," said Tony Filipek. "She is doing things that great coaches do, and I think she will do well here."
