Laker Volleyball Host a Pair of Games for Great Lake State Weekend

SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich.- The Lake Superior State volleyball team will host a pair of Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) matches against Wisconsin-Parkside and Purdue-Northwest during LSSU's Homecoming Weekend, Great Lake State Weekend. The game against Wisconsin-Parkside will take place on Friday, Oct. 11 at 4:00pm and the game against Purdue-Northwest will begin at 2:00pm on Saturday, Oct. 12. Both games will take place in the Bud Cooper Gymnasium. 

After a pair of road losses against the GLIAC leading Ashland Bears as well as the Wayne State Warriors, the Lakers look forward to welcoming fellow GLIAC opponents in two matches against the Wisconsin Parkside Rangers and Purdue-Northwest Pride. The Lakers will look to add to their win total this season (4-11, 1-6 GLIAC) and add their first home victory with a win this weekend . Additionally, the Lakers can tie their season win total as well as their conference win total from last season with a one victory this weekend. The Rangers are 2-5 in conference play through seven games and 4-11 overall, while the Pride have posted a 2-11-1 overall record and 0-7 in GLIAC games. 

Players to Watch

Lakers Player to Watch - So. Bethany Wilson

Wilson, an outside hitter, ranks fourth on the Lakers in kills as she has contributed 75 kills. The Midland, Mich. native also sits in fourth among her teammates with 250 total attacks through the 15 games the team has played. The sophomore has appeared in all 15 games this season for the Lakers. 

Rangers Player to Watch - Sr. Ann Leo

Leo, a defensive specialist, entered the 2019 season with the second most all-time career digs in school history (1,682). The Shorewood, Wis. native ranks second among GLIAC players in both digs this season (266) and digs per set (2.59).

Pride Player to Watch - RS-Jr. Brooke Ahrens

Ahrens, a setter, leads the Pride in assists with 298 in 10 matches played and her assists per set total (8.26) is good for ninth among all GLIAC competitors. The Covington, Ind. native leads the conference in service aces per set (0.61).

Up Next

The Lakers will travel to The Academy located in Indianapolis, Ind. for matches on both Friday, Oct 18 and Saturday, Oct 19. These games will be a part of the GLIAC/GLVC Crossover Tournament.
