Volleyball falls 3-0 at Lake Erie

PAINESVILLE, Ohio- Lake Superior State volleyball dropped Friday's Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference match against Lake Erie College in three sets (25-8, 25-15, 25-18) to open the weekend road trip.

The Lakers (1-15, 0-8 GLIAC) were unable to keep the attacking errors at bay during the first and second sets, racking up 19 errors and just nine kills, before stringing together a respectable 12 kills and only five errors in the third. The success in the third set was not enough, however, as the Lakers fell to the Storm (11-6, 4-3 GLIAC) in three frames.

Freshman Amanda Reid led the Lakers attack with seven kills, followed by Morgan Kelley with four kills. Brooke Williams and Elizabeth Ballor each added three kills and Karlee Weissend tied Caitlyn Kane with two kills each.

Sophomore transfer Lauren Lukasik totaled 12 assists to lead LSSU and junior setter Madison Castle added seven assists.

LEC received double digit kill totals from Brooke Peiffer (12) and Lexi Lombardo (10). Both Peiffer and Lombardo produced a match-high .500 attack percentage to help the Storm to a total of .346 percent.

Sophomore Mikala Williams led the Lakers' back end with eight digs, while Weissend scored a pair of solo blocks and assisted on another to lead the Lakers up front.

The Storm defense edged the Lakers in digs, 33-24, and in blocks 6-4.

The Lakers wrap up the weekend at Ohio Dominican on Saturday at 2 p.m.
