Lakers drop pair of Friday matches at UW-Parkside Tournament

SOMERS, Wis.- Lake Superior State volleyball opened the Wisconsin-Parkside Volleyball Tournament with a 3-0 loss against No. 4-ranked Minnesota-Duluth in the second consecutive meeting between the two teams. The Lakers (1-5 later fell 3-0 to St. Cloud State in their Friday evening match.

Game 1 UMD 3 – LSSU 0 (25-15, 25-14, 25-16)

Following a defeat at the hands of the Bulldogs (5-0) by the same score last week, the Lakers cleaned up their errors but were unable to break through the UMD defense with their attacks. LSSU totaled 19 kills and 19 errors, while the Bulldogs tallied 35 kills and just 15 errors for a .256 attack-percentage.

Morgan Kelley and Brooke Williams each totaled four kills to lead the Lakers and were followed by Karlee Weissend and Jena Tulgestke with three kills each. The Bulldogs were led by Allison Olley's match-high 11 kills.

Emily Torve dished out 30-of-32 assists for UMD, while Lauren Lukasik led the Lakers with nine and Madison Castle produced seven.

Sarah Kelly led UMD with five service aces and the Bulldogs combined for nine total throughout the match. Sophomore Mikala Williams picked up the lone ace for the Lakers.

LSSU will face Minnesota St.- Moorhead at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday morning on Court 1 and cap their weekend with a 3 p.m. matchup with Upper Iowa on Court 2. Live stats and video will not be available for the Lakers match against Upper Iowa.

Game 2 SCSU 3 – LSSU 0 (25-19, 28-26, 27-25)

A tight match throughout, the Lakers held a setpoint during the second fram before ultimately falling 28-26. LSSU produced 15 kills and boasted a .314 attack-percentage during the second set.

The Huskies (2-4) again needed to go into extra points to dispatch the Lakers in the final set, eventually pulling away 27-25.

Brooke Williams tied a match-high with 10 kills to lead the Lakers. Williams also boasted a .273 attack percentage to finish third on the team among players that reached double digit attempted attacks. Tulgestke finished with seven kills and a .294 attack-percentage, while Kelley produced four kills for LSSU.

Krista Kuglin led the Huskiess with 10 kills and was backed by Macy Weller's nine kills. Micah Nier and Shannon Klink each had eight kills for SCSU.

Lukasik paced the Lakers with 14 assists, while Marissa Kline produced a match-high 42 assists for SCSU.

LSSU will face Minnesota St.- Moorhead at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday morning on Court 1 and cap their weekend with a 3 p.m. matchup with Upper Iowa on Court 2. Live stats and video will not be available for the Lakers match against Upper Iowa.
