Cote Named GLIAC Women's Tennis Freshman of the Year; Fraile Named Honorable Mention All-GLIAC

MIDLAND, Mich. – True freshman Marilou Cote (Levis, Quebec) has been named the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Women's Tennis Freshman of the Year while also being selected to the All-GLIAC First Team, and Julia Fraile Raton (Sant Cugat del Valles, Spain) was named Honorable Mention All-GLIAC, as announced by the conference on Friday.

Cote had a strong debut collegiate season that saw her put together an 11-4 singles record while playing exclusively at the No. 1 spot (5-2 in league play), including a pair of victories over the 2022 and 2023 GLIAC Players of the Year (Wayne State's Ruyssen and Grand Valley's Griva, respectively). Cote was also able to provide a strong contribution in doubles play, leading the Lakers' top doubles unit to a pair of victories against GLIAC competition. Cote marks the second consecutive Lake Superior State Laker to be named GLIAC Freshman of the Year after Maddie Whip (Sydney, Australia) was named the league's top rookie after the 2022 season.

Fraile proved to be one of the biggest competitors on the team, finding a way to win while slowly climbing higher and higher in the lineup. She began the season playing at the No. 5 singles spot where she claimed the only singles victory of the day against the Tiffin Dragons and finished the season with a three-set victory at the No. 3 singles position against Grand Valley.
