Laker Women's Tennis Take Down No. 12 Ranked Doubles Team in 5-2 Loss to No. 20 GVSU

SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich. - The Lake Superior State (LSSU) women's tennis program (1-14, 0-7 GLIAC) fell to the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) regular season champion, No. 20 Grand Valley State (GVSU) Lakers (14-5, 7-0) by a final score of 5-2 to conclude the regular season on Saturday.

Grand Valley was able to get on the board first with a pair of victories at the No. 2 and No. 3 doubles spots, despite some strong efforts from the pairings of Julia Fraile Raton (Sant Cugat del Valles, Spain)/Madelin Harrod (Troy, Mich.) and Riley Gilman (Holt, Mich.)/Martina Oviedo (Cordoba, Argentina) to keep the matches competitive. However, despite the doubles point already being decided, freshmen Marilou Cote (Levis, Quebec) and Valentina Parodi (Albissola Marina, Italy) continued to battle before ultimately coming away with a hard-fought 7-5 win in the No. 1 doubles match to take down the No. 12 ranked doubles team in the nation in GVSU's Vasileia Griva and Taylor Barrett.

LSSU put together multiple strong performances in singles play, highlighted by a 6-2, 6-2 win by Cote in the top singles position. Fraile was also able to come away with a victory in a nailbiter for the longest match of the day, winning in three sets by a final score of 3-6, 7-6(4), 7-5 in the No. 3 singles match. However, Grand Valley would eventually claim victories at the remaining four matches, including a tough 6-3, 6-7(2), 6-4 decision over Parodi at the No. 2 spot.
