MIDLAND, Mich. - The Lake Superior State women's tennis program (1-12, 0-5 GLIAC) fell to the Saginaw Valley State Cardinals (7-10, 2-5 GLIAC) by a final score of 5-2 on Saturday.
The Cardinals got off to a strong start in doubles play, taking the No. 1 and No. 3 doubles spots by equal scores of 6-2 to secure the doubles point. The duo of Julia Fraile Raton (Sant Cugat del Valles) and Madelin Harrod (Troy, Mich.) would come away with a competitive showing in the No. 2 doubles match, but Saginaw Valley State would ultimately come away with the victory by a score of 6-4.
The Lakers would come away with a pair of strong, three-set victories with true freshman Marilou Cote (Levis, Quebec) and Fraile each shaking off dropping their opening sets for respective wins of 1-6, 6-4, 6-3 and 2-6, 7-6(4), [10-4] in the No. 1 and No. 3 singles matches. However, the Cardinals would claim wins at the remaining four singles matches to secure the overall team victory.
The Lakers return to action on Friday, April 14 when they host the Ferris State Bulldogs in the Student Activity Center with the first serve scheduled for 10 a.m.
