Laker Women's Tennis Falls to Davenport

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - The Lake Superior State women's tennis program (1-10, 0-3 GLIAC) fell to the Davenport Panthers (11-7, 2-1 GLIAC) by a final score of 6-1 on Saturday.

The Panthers got off to a quick start in doubles play, securing the doubles point with a pair of 6-1 wins at the No. 1 and No. 3 spots. The duo of Julia Fraile Raton (Sant Cugat del Valles) and Tayla Brasier (Bathurst, Australia) were able to put up a strong battle in the No. 2 doubles match, but it would ultimately not be enough as Davenport claimed another victory by a score of 6-4.

True freshman Marilou Cote (Levis, Quebec) was able to come away with another strong singles performance for the Lakers, shaking off dropping the opening set by two points in a tiebreaker on her way to a thrilling 6-7(6), 6-3, [10-7] win at the top singles position. However, that would prove to be the only victory for the Lakers on the day as the Panthers claimed the remaining five matches to secure the team victory overall.

The Lakers return to action on Friday March 31 when they host the Wayne State Warriors in the Student Activity Center with the first serve scheduled for 10 a.m.
