Laker Women's Tennis Fall to Huskies on the Road

HOUGHTON, Mich. - The Lake Superior State women's tennis program (1-8, 0-1 GLIAC) fell to the Michigan Tech Huskies (4-4, 1-0 GLIAC) by a final score of 6-1 on Sunday.

The Huskies got out to an early start in doubles play after taking the No. 1 spot by a 6-1 margin before taking the No. 2 doubles match 6-3 to secure the doubles point. However, Riley Gilman (Holt, Mich.) and Martina Oviedo (Cordoba, Argentina) would continue to battle, giving their opponents all they could handle at the No. 3 doubles position, but they would ultimately fall in a tiebreaker.

The Huskies were able to carry their momentum over into singles play, but the Lakers were able to find some successes of their own. Julia Fraile Raton (Sant Cugant del Valles, Spain) would force a decisive third set in the No. 4 singles match after a hard-fought seconds set, and Tayla Brasier (Bathurst, Australia) secured a strong 6-3. 7-6 victory at the No. 3 singles position for her first individual GLIAC victory.

However, the Huskies were able to claim victories throughout the remaining singles matches on their way to the 6-1 win overall.

The Lakers return to action on Friday, March 24 when they travel to take on the Purdue Northwest Pride with the first serve scheduled for 12:30 p.m.
