Augusta Survives Multiple Strong Individual Performances; Lakers Fall 4-3

HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. - The Lake Superior State women's tennis program (1-6) fell to the Augusta Jaguars (6-6) in a tightly-contested match by a final score of 4-3 on Tuesday.

The Lakers were able to strike early as Marilou Cote (Levis, Quebec) and Valentina Parodi (Albissola Marina, Italy) came away with a strong 6-2 victory at the top doubles spot, but Augusta was able to answer right back, holding on for a 6-4 win at the No. 3 doubles position. However, despite a hard-fought battle from both sides, the Jaguars were able to come away victorious in the No. 2 doubles match after a 7-3 tiebreaker to take the early 1-0 lead overall.

Cote was able to tie up the score after shaking off dropping the opening set for the 5-7, 6-3, [10-7] victory at the top singles position in a third set super-tiebreaker, but the Jaguars would once again respond, narrowly defeating Tayla Brasier (Bathurst, Australia) by two points in a super-tiebreaker with a final score of 6-7(9), 6-0, [11-9]. Parodi was then able to knot up the score at 2-2 with another competitive three-set win with a score of 4-6, 7-5, [10-8], and Julia Fraile Raton (Sant Cugat del Valles) gave her team the lead with a 7-6(4), 6-3 win at the No. 4 spot to push Augusta to the brink. However, the Jaguars would claim victories at the No. 5 and No. 6 singles positions to survive the furious Laker attack and steal the 4-3 win overall.

The Lakers return to action on Thursday, March 7 when they take on the Barton Bulldogs with the first serve scheduled for 8:30 a.m.
