SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich. - Six Lake Superior State student-athletes received All-Conference honors as announced by Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) officials on Monday, April 12. On the men's team, Juho Kantola was named to the All-GLIAC First Team while Xavier Vicent Navarro was named to the All-GLIAC Second Team. Senior Seth Pinnoo received honorable mention honors. On the women's team, Nadege Koua and Milena Baigorria were both named to the All-GLIAC Second Team while Claudia Sole received honorable mention honors.
Kantola, a freshman from Tuusula, Finland, earned First Team All-Conference recognition in his first collegiate season after playing to a 6-3 overall singles record in the No. 1 singles spot. Kantola also played on the team's top doubles pair for the 2021 season and compiled a 3-6 record. In singles play, all of Kantola's matches either went to three sets or required a tiebreaker. One of the freshman's notable victories this season came on April 16 when he defeated Ferris State's Mathis Guerre, who was named GLIAC Male Player of the Year.
Vicent Navarro, a sophomore from Cocentaina, Spain, has been named to the All-GLIAC Second Team in his first season with the Lakers after joining as a transfer. Vicent Navarro played to a 4-5 overall singles record as he played in the No. 2 spot in all nine matches for the Lakers this season. In the team's match against Grand Valley on April 17, Vicent Navarro defeated fellow Second Team All-Conference member Sean Miller in a three set match.
Pinnoo, a senior from St. Clair, Mich., was named All-GLIAC Honorable Mention. This season, Pinnoo has totaled a 4-5 overall record in singles play, including a 3-3 record in the No. 6 position. Pinnoo played the majority of the season playing on the team's third doubles pair with Diego Penz and has posted a 6-3 record in doubles play.
Koua, a junior from Laval, Quebec, received Second Team All-GLIAC recognition as she compiled a 3-5 record playing in the No. 1 singles spot for the Lakers this season. Koua, who was named to the Second Team All-GLIAC last season as well, played on the top doubles pair for the Lakers this season with Baigorria and totaled a 4-4 record in doubles competition.
Baigorria, a senior from Rio Segundo, Argentina, was also named to the All-GLIAC Second Team, compiled a 6-3 overall singles record this season for the Lakers. In her second season with the Lakers, Baigorria posted a 1-1 record when playing No. 1 at singles, 2-1 when playing in the No. 2 spot, and 3-1 playing in the No. 3 position. Baigorria played on the top doubles pair for the majority this season with Koua and totaled a 4-4 record in doubles competition when playing at No. 1.
Sole, a sophomore from Valls, Spain, earned All-GLIAC Honorable Mention recognition in her first season with the Lakers after joining the team as a transfer. This season, Sole has played in the No. 3, No. 4, and No. 5 singles spots for the Lakers. Sole has totaled a 6-4 overall record in singles competition. In doubles play, Sole has played the majority of matches on the team's No. 2 pairing and has totaled a 4-6 overall record.
