Women's Tennis Drops Opening GLIAC Match to Purdue Northwest

PARK FOREST, Ill. - The Lake Superior State women's tennis team lost by a score of 4-3 at Purdue Northwest on Friday, March 19 in the team's first Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) match of the season at Park Forest Tennis and Fitness Club in Park Forest, Ill. Through the first three matches of the season, the Lakers hold a 1-2 overall record and an 0-1 record in conference play. 

Lake Superior State won the doubles point over Purdue Northwest (4-4 1-0 GLIAC) as the team's No. 1 and No. 3 pairings won their sets. The duo of Nadege Koua and Milena Baigorria won by a score 6-3 whle Julia Fraile Raton and Muskaan Ranjan earned a 6-4 win. The No. 2 doubles team of Keegan Malpass and Claudia Sole dropped a 7-6 (5-3) set.

In singles play, the Lakers won two of six matches. LSSU's No. 3 singles players Baigorria won her match (6-2, 6-1) and No. 6 Sole won by scores of 6-2, 6-4. Koua, the Lakers No. 1 singles player, dropped her match 6-2, 6-3.  Ranjan, Malpass, and Raton each would be defeated in two sets as the Pride secured the conference win. 

Looking Ahead

The Lakers will continue the weekend road trip tomorrow, Saturday, March 20 against the Davenport University Panthers at 10:00 a.m. in the Gainey Athletic Facility in Grand Rapids, Mich.
