Women's Tennis Earns First Victory

SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich. - The Lake Superior State women's tennis team earned its first win by a score of 4-3against the Saginaw Valley State Cardinals in a Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) contest on Saturday, Oct. 5 at 10:00 a.m.

Despite the Lakers No. 1 doubles pair winning, the Cardinals clinched the doubles point as they won the other two matches. Sophomore Nadege Koua and junior Muskaan Ranjan won their match 6-3 while No. 2 tandem junior AlexiAnn Drouin and sophomore Keegan Malpass dropped their match 6-2 and freshmen Madelin Harrod and Riley Gilman, the Lakers No. 3 doubles team, fell by a score of 6-1.

No. 1 - AlexiAnn Drouin def. Maddie Miller (6-1, 6-0)

No. 2 - Nadege Koua def. Joanne Gao (6-4, 6-0)

No. 3 - Muskaan Ranjan def. Taylor McLaughlin (7-6, 2-6, 6-4)

No. 4 - Keegan Malpass def. Gyselle Gutierrez (0-6, 6-2, 6-3)

No. 5 - Sara Neves def. Riley Gilman (6-0, 6-4)

No. 6 - Nicole Johnson def. Madelin Harrod (6-1, 6-0)

Up Next:

Lake Superior State will return to the court tomorrow morning Sunday, Oct. 6 against another GLIAC opponent, the Northwood Timberwolves, as the teams will face-off in the Arbuckle Student Activity Center in the Norris Center at 10:00 a.m. Admission to the match is free.
