Tennis Returns to the Court for Two Weekend Matches 

SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich.- The Lake Superior State University women's tennis team will be back on the road this weekend to play two matches against Great Lakes Athletic Intercollegiate Conference (GLIAC) opponents Wayne State and Ashland. The Lakers are 0-1 in GLIAC play this season. 

The Lakers will begin competition on Saturday, Sept. 28 against Wayne State in Detroit, Mich at 10:00 a.m. and close the weekend matches on Sunday, Sept. 29 against Ashland in Ashland, Ohio at 10:00 a.m.

Last weekend the Lakers competed in the ITA Midwest Regional Tournament for the first time in the women's tennis team history. Hoping to build off that achievement, the Lakers will look forward to building more confidence this weekend.  

The Lakers will have six players heading downstate this weekend. Juniors AlexiAnn Drouin and Muskaan Ranjan, sophomores Nadege Koua and Keegan Malpass, as well as freshmen Riley Gilman and Madelin Harrod who will help to solidify the lineup. The Lakers will continue to work hard and look forward to fighting for each match to represent LSSU with pride against two tough opponents this weekend.

Wayne State and Ashland are tied for the conference lead with two wins this season. The Wayne State Warriors are 2-0 overall while the Ashland Eagles are 6-1 overall and 2-0 in GLIAC play. 

Last year, Lake State fell to Wayne State by a score of 6-1 and defeated Ashland 6-1. 

UP NEXT  

Following these two conference matches, Lakers will stay home to host Saginaw Valley on Saturday, Oct. 5 and Northwood on Sunday, Oct. 6. Times are still to be determined.
