Women's Tennis Participates in the ITA Midwest Regionals

CALEDONIA, Mich.- The Lake Superior State women's tennis team competed in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association's (ITA) Midwest Regionals hosted by Davenport University in Caledonia, Mich. this weekend on Friday, Sept 20 through Sunday, Sept. 22. 

Junior AlexiAnn Drouin, who was the No. 11 seed in the Women's A Singles Main Draw, lost in two sets (6-3, 6-4) to Abbie-Jade Riley of Tiffin University. In the consolation round, Drouin fell in two sets by scores of 6-3 and 6-4.

Sophomore Nadege Koua was the second Laker to compete in the Women's A Singles, where she fell in the opening round in three sets (3-6, 6-2, 10-5). In the consolation round, Koua lost by scores of 7-6(5) and 6-3. 

Sophomore Keegan Malpass and freshman Riley Gilman each competed in the Women's B Singles Main Draw for the Lakers. Malpass lost in the main draw in two sets (6-0, 6-2) and fell in three sets in the consolation draw by scores of 6-4, 1-6, and 10-4. Gilman was defeated in the main draw (6-0, 6-1) and dropped her match of the consolation round in two sets. 

In doubles play, Drouin and Gilman played together as the Lakers team in the Women's A Doubles Main Draw. The tandem fell by a score of 8-1, and was defeated in the opening round of consolation play. 

Malpass and Koua dropped their match in the Women's B Doubles Main Draw by a score of 9-7 but played very well in the consolation round with a 6-3 win over a doubles pair from UF.

The Lakers will go on the road again to face the Wayne State Warriors in Detroit, Michigan on Saturday, Sept. 28 at 10:00 a.m. Following that match the Lakers will travel Ashland, Ohio to face the Ashland Eagles at 10:00 a.m on Sunday, Sept. 29.
