Women's Tennis to Compete in the ITA Regionals this Weekend

SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich.- The Women's tennis team will be traveling to Caledonia, Mich. to participate in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Regionals hosted by Davenport University this weekend. Matches will be played on Friday, Sept. 20, Saturday, Sept. 21 and Sunday, Sept. 22 although the opponents and times of the match have yet to be determined. 

After an injury to junior Milena Baigorria, the Lakers will only have four eligible players headed into this match. The Lakers will hope to build off of No. 1 AlexiAnn Drouin and her strong performances last weekend where she won her singles match (6-4, 6-3) and her doubles match with Baigorria. Sophomores Nadege Koua and Keegan Malpass will be competing for the Lakers as well as freshman Riley Gilman

In this competition, the Lakers will be participating with over 8,000 student athletes from across the nation. This regional competition is comprised of teams from NCAA Division I, II & III and the NAIA. The Lakers will participate in the Midwestern region of the NCAA Division II competition.

Following the ITA regional tournament, the Lakers will go on the road again to face the Wayne State Warriors in Detroit, Michigan on Saturday, Sept. 28 at 10:00 a.m. Following that match the Lakers will travel Ashland, Ohio to face the Ashland Eagles at 10:00 a.m on Sunday, Sept. 29.
