Women’s Tennis to Open Season at Home Against Michigan Tech

SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich.- The Lake Superior State women's tennis team is set to open its season this Saturday, Sept. 14 at home against the Huskies of Michigan Tech. Matches are set to begin at 10:00 a.m. 

2018 Season Recap

The Lakers had a season with a team winning percentage of just under .500 (.471) and a record of 4-5 in conference that earned them a spot at 6th place out of ten participating schools in the GLIAC conference. The women's team ended on a positive note by winning their final three matches against Davis & Elkins, West Va. Wesleyan and Lawrence Tech. Coached by Luke Orgen, the Lakers returned to the GLIAC tournament last year where they fell to Ferris State with a score of 4-1. The Lakers return two players who received All-GLIAC Honors last season - junior AlexiAnn Drouin (All-GLIAC First Team) and sophomore Nadege Koua (All-GLIAC Second Team).

The Lakers will host the Michigan Tech Huskies for a GLIAC conference match on Saturday, Sept. 14 at 10:00 a.m. Michigan Tech finished with a record of 10-7 last year including a win over the Lakers by a score of 7-0. 

Up Next

The Lakers will travel to Caledonia, Mich. to participate in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) regional championship hosted by Davenport University. The Lakers will compete in the midwest division and the opponent/time of the match are to be announced. Information will be available on the team's official schedule page as soon as it is released.
