GRIFFITH, Ind. - Lake Superior State women's tennis claimed their third consecutive 9-0 victory with a pair of sweeps over St. Joseph's College and Purdue Northwest over the weekend.
LSSU 9 - SJC 0 (Saturday, Feb. 25)
The Lakers (8-8) opened the weekend at St. Joseph's on Saturday with an 8-0 victory in No. 1 doubles by Tara Harvey and Macarena Bielsa over Mary Huffine and Assya Trimari. Following an 8-4 win in No. 2 doubles by Jenay Andrews and Laura Roberts over Clare Kost and Vanessa Olson, LSSU picked up the doubles sweep with another 8-0 win by Allison Grandfield and Laura Fernandez in the third doubles position.
In singles play, the Lakers swept the Pumas (0-1) in straight sets to claim the 9-0 victory. Harvey opened the singles portion with a 6-4, 6-4 victory over Trimari in the top singles match. Roberts then defeated Olson in No. 2 singles, 6-2, 6-4, followed by a No. 3 singles victory for Bielsa over Marry Huffine by a score of 6-2, 6-1.
Fernandez secured a win by default in No. 4 singles over Kost. The Lakers surrendered just one set in each of the fifth and sixth singles matches. Andrews picked up the 6-0, 6-1 victory over Lauren Jakubczyck in No. 5 singles and Grandfield salted away the team sweep with a 6-1, 6-0 win over Matalene Gearhart in No. 6 singles.

LSSU 9 - PNW 0 (Sunday, Feb. 26)
LSSU captured the second 9-0 victory of the weekend and their third-consecutive with another dominating performance at Purdue Northwest. The Lakers picked up 8-3 wins over the Pride (2-3) in both No. 1 and No. 2 doubles before closing out No. 3 doubles with an 8-0 win by Grandfield and Fernandez against Tatiana Spak and Chloe Conaway.
Each of the three doubles pairings have been together for the four matches of the spring season and have all produced 4-0 records.
Harvey improved to 8-8 on the season with a 6-1, 6-3 straight-sets win over Brooke Foltz in the first singles match, followed by Roberts picking up a 7-5, 6-4 win over Stella Evers in No. 2 singles.
The Lakers finished off singles play with straight sets victories by Bielsa in No. 3 singles (6-0, 6-1 over Carolina Yepez), Fernandez in No. 4 singles (6-1, 6-2 over Cynthia Basu-Chavez), Andrews in No. 5 singles (6-1, 6-0 over Spak) and Grandfield in the sixth spot (6-0, 6-2 over Selina Baez). Andrews' victory in the fifth singles match improved the sophomore's record to 9-7 in singles play this season.
LSSU concludes the 2016-17 season on the road this week, at Calumet College on Monday and at Lewis University on Wednesday.
