Lakers open weekend with 7-2 victory at Lawrence Tech

SOUTHFIELD, Mich. - Lake Superior State women's tennis picked up a 7-2 victory over Lawrence Tech at Franklin Athletic Club on Saturday (Feb. 18) to open the weekend road trip at LTU and Alma College on Sunday.

LSSU swept the doubles portion to claim an early 3-0 lead. In No. 1 doubles, Tara Harvey and Macarena Bielsa claimed victory, 8-4 over Carolyn McMullen and Sabrina Mateos. Laura Roberts and Jenay Andrews picked up the second victory of doubles with an 8-2 win over Ana Hernandez-Munt and Brittany Schmidt. In No. 3 doubles, Laura Fernandez teamed up with Allison Grandfield for an 8-1 victory over Maria Alvarez and Sarah Burgess.

Havey opened the singles portion with a straight-sets victory 6-0, 6-3 over McMullen to give the Lakers a 4-0 lead.  Bielsa won 6-1, 6-2 over Alvarez in third singles to cement the victory for LSSU, followed by straight-set victories by Jenay Andrews in No. 5 singles and Grandfield in No. 6 singles.

The 7-2 victory over LTU opened an undefeated weekend for the Lakers. LSSU concluded the weekend road trip with a 9-0 sweep at Alma on Sunday.
