Lakers women's tennis claims victory at Lawrence Tech

SOUTHFIELD, Mich. - Lake Superior State women's tennis scored a 7-2 victory on the road against National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) member Lawrence Tech on Friday to improve their overall record to 2-12 on the season.

In the doubles portion Sarah Awe and Tara Harvey opened defeated Paige Fallu and Rylie Fallu 8-2 in No. 1 doubles slot. Laura Roberts and Jenay Andrews then defeated Carolyn McCullen and Missy Coolsaet, 8-2, in No. 2 doubles to put the Lakers up 2-1 after the opening doubles portion.

Awe opened singles play with a 6-2, 6-0 victory over McCullen in the No. 1 slot to improve her record to 7-6 in her senior campaign. Harvey earned a 6-3, 6-1 win over Paige Fallu in No. 2 singles and Roberts defeated Rylie Fallu 6-2, 6-1 in No. 3 singles.

The Lakers capped singles play with victories by Laura Fernandez over Ana Hernandez in a marathon three-set tilt in No. 4 singles 6-7 (3-7), 6-0, 10-4, Jenay Andrews picked up a No. 5 singles victory, 6-0, 6-2 over Coolsaet, and Kirsten Malpass won 6-3, 6-3 over Brittany Schmidt in No. 6 singles. 

 

The Lakers cap the season at 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday at Spring Arbor.
