Lady Lakers fall to GVSU 8-1

SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich.- Lake Superior State women's tennis dropped the second match of the opening weekend, falling to Grand Valley State (2-0, 2-0 GLIAC) 8-1. The Lakers were shutout during the singles portion but picked up the first doubles team win on the season.

The duo of senior Sarah Awe and freshman Jenay Andrews toppled the GVSU pairing of Aimee Moccia and Rachel Sumner 8-6. The victory gives the duo their first win of the season and the first doubles win for the Lakers (0-2, 0-2 GLIAC).

Awe played a tight, three set match in the top singles spot. The senior from Washington Township, Mich. took Abby Perkins to the wire but fell short 3-6, 7-5, 6-4.

The Lakers begin a three week road tour next week with a matches at Walsh Sept. 12 and Ashland Sept. 13.
