Game 2 suspended in the second after Walsh wins opener

NORTH CANTON, Ohio - The Lake Superior State softball team will go to great lengths to play a softball game. During its Easter weekend trip to Canton, Ohio, the Lakers endured a bus breakdown during the trip downstate and steady downpour of rain while taking on league conteder Walsh.

The result was a 7-1 loss Friday at Walsh and a suspended second game. The Cavaliers (11-4 overall, 6-1 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference) led 8-5 when Game 2 was halted in the second inning. The game is tentatively scheduled to resume April 26.

Amanda Maxon hit her sixth home run of the season for LSSU's lone RBI during the first game. Brandi Anderson and Lindsey Pajot added singles for the Lakers (8-13 overall, 1-6 GLIAC).

Riley Durbano (3-8) took the pitching loss after giving up five runs on two hits, five walks and one hit batter during the first 1 2/3 innings. Alyssa Boucher finished the game, giving up two runs on six hits and two walks.

Walsh's Casi Rohr, who was last week's GLIAC Player of the Week, totaled 11 strikeouts.

The Lakers play a double-header at Malone beginning at 1 p.m. Sunday.
