Women's Golf Opens 2021 Season at the SVSU Spring Invite

GEORGETOWN, Ky. - The Lake Superior State women's golf team competed in the SVSU Spring Invitational hosted by Saginaw Valley State University on Saturday, March 20 and Sunday, March 21 at the Cherry Blossom Golf Course in Georgetown, Ky. to open the 2021 season. The Lakers posted a combined total score of 655 in the two day competition. 

In the team's first competition in over a year, the Lakers finished 11th in the match. 

The Lakers were represented by senior Naomi Keyte, senior Madison Wilkie, junior Alyshia Suleman, redshirt-senior Madison Whittet and sophomore Julia Vess, while freshman Marie Mathieu competed as an individual. 

Keyte had a great weekend, placing third among all participants with a two-day total score of 149 (75, 74). With the third place finish, Keyte was named to the All-Tournament Team. Wilkie placed second among her teammates with a total score of 162 (84, 78). 

Whittet had a total score 170 (87, 83), Suleman totaled a 174 (93, 81) and Vess finished with a score of 180 (85, 85).

Mathieu posted a two-day total of 190 (98, 92) in the individual competition. 

Looking Ahead

The Lakers will return to competition on April 4-6 as the women's team travels to Blacklick, Ohio to participate in the 2021 NC4K Classic hosted by Ohio Dominican University. The event will be held at the Jefferson Country Club.
