Laker Women's Basketball Face Setback Against NMU

SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich. - The Lake Superior State (LSSU) women's basketball team (1-19, 0-11 GLIAC) fell to the Northern Michigan (NMU) Wildcats (13-7, 7-4 GLIAC) by a final score of 73-50 on Saturday.

The Wildcats opened up the scoring, but Jaden Wilder (Manton, Mich.) tied up the game at 3-3 with a shot from distance. NMU was able to pull ahead, but multiple buckets from Grace Bradford (Maple City, Mich.) kept the Lakers within striking distance after the first ten minutes. Breah Golden (Arcadia, Wis.) would then get involved with a pair of baskets, including hitting a three after a nice feed from Gracey Metz (Hartland, Mich.) to close out the opening half.

CeCe Hacker (Omaha, Neb.) opened up the second half with a three, and the Lakers would continue to push back as Metz stole the ball away before taking it all the way to the rack for a layup in transition. Metz and Maddie Bradford (Maple City, Mich.) continued to apply pressure to the Wildcat defense, but despite multiple fourth quarter baskets from Golden, NMU was able to hold on for the victory.

Metz and Golden led the way offensively for the Lakers with 11 and 10 points, respectively, and Grace Bradford led all players in rebounding with 10.

The Lakers return to action on Saturday, Feb. 10 when they host the Ferris State Bulldogs with tipoff scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
