Preview: Laker Women's Basketball Set to Host SVSU and Wayne State

SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich. - The Lake Superior State women's basketball program (5-16, 2-11 GLIAC) is set to take on the Saginaw Valley State Cardinals and the Wayne State Warriors in a pair of Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) matchups in Bud Cooper Gymnasium on Thursday Feb. 9 and Saturday, Feb. 11, respectively.

The Cardinals currently hold a record of 12-10 (7-5 GLIAC), narrowly maintaining fourth place in the conference standings. The Lakers fell to the Cardinals in their previous matchup despite a strong defensive effort in the second quarter in which they held Saginaw Valley to just eight points. The Cardinals boast the top scoring duo in the GLIAC in Kaitlyn Zarycki (20.4 ppg) and Tori DePerry (17.6 ppg) who rank second and fifth in the league, respectively, but the Lakers will counter on the glass with the top two rebounders in the GLIAC in Mattison Rayman (Otsego, Mich.) (10.7 rpg) and Grace Bradford (Glen Arbor, Mich.) (9.7 rpg).

The Warriors enter the weekend with an overall record of 11-9 (4-8 GLIAC). The Lakers will be seeking revenge after Wayne State narrowly stole the victory in the previous meeting between the two programs in Detroit in which the Warriors rallied from being down double-digits in the fourth quarter.
