Preview: Laker Women's Basketball Set to Face UP Rivals on the Road

SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich. - The Lake Superior State women's basketball program (2-6, 1-1 GLIAC) is set to face Upper Peninsula rivals, Michigan Tech and Northern Michigan on Friday, Dec. 9 and Sunday, Dec. 11, respectively.

The Michigan Tech Huskies currently hold a record of 7-2, and they are led offensively by Ellie Mackay scoring an average of 15.1 points per game to pace a balanced offense. Defensively, Alex Rondorf also leads the team with an average of 8.4 rebounds per game. The duo of Mackay and Rondorf both received Preseason All-GLIAC honors, and the projected third place finishers of the Great Lakes Intercollegiate athletic Conference, like the Lakers, are coming off of a conference-opening weekend split after falling on the road to Wisconsin-Parkside before picking up a hard-fought 86-83 victory at Purdue Northwest on Saturday.

The Northern Michigan Wildcats currently hold a record of 6-3, but they have gotten off to a 2-0 start in GLIAC play with a pair of wins on the road over Purdue Northwest and Wisconsin-Parkside. Offensively, the Wildcats are led by Preseason First Team All-GLIAC honoree, Makaylee Kuhn, with a team-leading 14.9 points per game while also leading the Wildcats in rebounding with an average of 6.7 per contest. The Wildcats will host the Ferris State Bulldogs on Friday prior to their matchup against the Lakers.

The Lakers currently boast the top rebounding duo in the GLIAC with Mattison Rayman (Otsego, Mich.) and Grace Bradford (Glen Arbor, Mich.) who are averaging 12.3 and 7.9 rebounds per game for the No. 1 and No. 5 marks in the conference, respectively, and they will be looking to control the glass when they take on their Upper Peninsula rivals on Friday and Sunday.
