Preview: Laker Women's Basketball to Open Conference Play With a Pair of Games at Home

SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich. - The Lake Superior State women's basketball program (1-5) is set to open Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) play with a pair of contests in Bud Cooper Gymnasium. First, on Dec. 1, the Lakers will face the Davenport Panthers (4-2) before welcoming the No. 1 ranked Grand Valley State Lakers (5-0) on Saturday, Dec. 3.  

The Panthers currently hold a record of 4-2, including a recent 73-61 victory over Hillsdale, and they are led by Lillee Gustafson who is currently averaging a double-double with 13.3 points and 10.5 rebounds to lead her team in both categories.

Grand Valley has gotten off to a fast start this season, currently holding a record of 5-0, and they utilize a balanced attack with Emily Spitzley leading the team with 14.6 points per game. Meanwhile, Courtney Sharland leads the Lakers in rebounds with an average of 5.6 per game, including 13 on the offensive glass. They will take on No. 20 Ferris State before traveling north for the battle of the Lakers.
