Women's Basketball Drops GLIAC Game to Grand Valley

SAULT STE MARIE, Mich. - The Lake Superior State women's basketball team was defeated by the Grand Valley State Lakers by a final score of 78-21 in a Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) game on Thursday, Feb. 3 at the Bud Cooper Gymnasium in Sault Ste. Marie, Mich. 

Grand Valley controlled the play in the first quarter as the team outscored the Lakers 33-1. Lake Superior State's defense was able to hold GVSU to 15 points in the second quarter. The LSSU Lakers held Grand Valley off the scoresheet through the first three minutes of the second quarter. Freshman CeCe Hacker scored the first points of the second quarter at 7:13 when she made a jump shot after a defensive rebound by Mattison Rayman. At the close of the first half, Grand Valley led 48-7. 

In the third quarter, LSSU kept Grand Valley to 14 points while the home Lakers added five points. Lake State, playing with a shortened bench, trailed 62-12 after thirty minutes of play. In the final 10 minutes of the conference game, Grand Valley would close out the game to take the victory by a final score 78-21. 

What's Next

The Lakers will cap off the weekend pair of games on Saturday, Feb. 5 against the Davenport Panthers. The conference matchup is set for a 1:00 p.m. tipoff in the Bud Cooper Gymnasium.
