Women’s Basketball Falls to No.16 Michigan Tech at Home

SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich.— The Lake Superior State women's basketball team fell to No.16-ranked Michigan Tech, 77-47, Saturday afternoon in a Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference matchup inside Bud Cooper Gymnasium.

 

With the loss, the Lakers drop to 0-13 overall on the season with an 0-9 mark in the league. The Huskies improve to 14-2, 8-1.

 

LSSU finished the game shooting 40.9 percent from the field and 20 percent from three-point range. MTU shot 54.5 and 57.1 percent.

 

Lake State was outrebounded 26-18 in the loss. Turnovers were even with each team committing 13 respectively.

 

Sophomore forward Lexie Kohn and senior forward Tamara Novic led Lake Superior offensively with 11 point apiece. Kohn and Novic also brought down four rebound each to lead the team.

 

Freshman forward Rebecca Villanueva finished with eight points off the bench and was 2-of-2 on triple attempts.

 

Lindsay Winters led the Huskies offensively with 18 points on the night. Kelli Guy and and Hannah Hobson finished with 12.

 

Lake State is back in action next Thursday (Jan.18) as they take on Grand Valley on the road at 6 p.m. The Lakers return home Feb.1 as they play host to Saginaw Valley in GLIAC competition.
